Petula Parker, fiction, book review, ebook, On My Kindle

Kate Billings, a 26-year old lawyer at Krapp & Lipschitz, is expecting a hefty bonus this year. With 2622 hours billed in the past year, which includes 172 hours of pro-bono work that provided the firm with an overwhelming amount of positive press, and her religious adherence to the firm’s dress code; Kate is confident that she will receive at least $50,000 for her dedication to the firm.

During her review with the partners, Kate’s dreams of a huge bonus check are crushed. The partners are dissatisfied with virtually everything about the hours that she billed, her work, her appearance, and her attitude. The bonus that the partners decide to give Kate is nothing short of insulting, and would likely be grounds for a discrimination suit in this day and age.

Kate handles this news less than gracefully; after going on a prank spree that rivals anything that I could have possibly come up with, Kate uses her firm’s corporate credit card to take a trip to Barcelona in order to find the love of her life, Diego.

Feeling guilty about charging what she considers an excessive amount on the corporate credit card, Kate decides to find a job in order to finance her escapades. It looks like Kate's luck has changed, but she soon discovers that nothing in Barcelona is what it seems.

The first couple of chapters in the book are merely a prelude to the adventures that Kate experiences in Barcelona, and I enjoyed every bit of Kate’s romp through Barcelona. Kate is impetuous, ambitious, wacky, witty, relatable, and she manages to get herself into some hilarious situations.

5-star rating, book review, On My Kindle

Once I got started, I couldn’t put the book down because I was wondering what she would get herself into next. Kate’s Escape from the Billable Hour is an easy read with a lighthearted and fun storyline. It is a little escape from reality, and is perfect for curling up on the couch with after a hard day at work.
