to-be-read, On My Kindle, Feb 2 - 9, 2016

I like to pretend that I know quite a bit about blogging; until I do something that made sense when I came up with the idea, but makes no sense in practice. That is what happened when I decided to include a "to-be-reviewed" section to my weekly TBR.

In theory, this was a great idea. My intent was to to let people know which books will be reviewed in about a week. In practice, I am finding it difficult to come up with different things to say about the books without giving away the review. Rather than risk being repetitive, I am just going to share what's on my to-be-read list for the upcoming week with the understanding that reviews for these books will be posted about a week after they appear in the weekly TBR post.

The fantastic thing about owning a blog is the ability to make changes when one realizes that something is not working out as well as one thought it would.

Speaking of changes, On My Kindle is allowing authors to feature their books without a review. I did this for the times that I am backlogged; I get requests from authors who want their books featured, but do not want to wait longer than a month for their books to be read and reviewed by me. I will be extending this to include readers who want to post a review on a blog, but do not have the time to maintain a blog.

To-Be-Read

This week's to-be-read list is a bit eclectic; I have a contemporary fiction novel that I am sure will be an interesting read, and a children's book written by an author who I have reviewed in the past.

contemporary fiction, Tom Maremaa, Of Gods, Royals and Superman, TBR, On My Kindle

"Of Gods, Royals and Superman opens in 1775 when Cristoph Reid prepares to attend Dartmouth and study under Eleazar Wheelock. The story then jumps to the present with Christopher Reed thrown out of Dartmouth for the bad behavior of his fraternity brothers. That’s part of the narrative until we meet Morgan Kinder, also a senior at Dartmouth, who returns to the College to write her senior thesis about a vanished American author from the 1970s."

I have started reading the book, and I am enjoying it thus far. I am anxious to see how the story plays out for Christopher and Morgan.

children's book, Super Sporty, Ellie Firestone, TBR, On My Kindle

I have already read the third book in the Super Sporty series, Super Sporty 3: The Mechanical Menaces, so I was thrilled when Ellie offered Introducing Super Sporty, which includes the first two books in the series, for free over the holidays. I grabbed a copy of the book, and I am excited to read the first book in this cute and funny series.
