Marvelous Monday, 09/19/16, TBR, On My Kindle Book Reviews

Things are beginning to go back to normal here at the On My Kindle household. I managed to review two books last week and I started reading the first book on this week's TBR list over the weekend.

Even though things are going back to normal, there has been a lot going on here:

Adopting a Dog

Kyle and I have decided to adopt a dog. Since I do I have pet allergies, I am allergic to some breeds. This makes finding a dog to adopt a bit problematic because we are limited to a few breeds that I interacted with in the past without any ill effect. I managed to find a couple of dogs online locally and tried reaching out to the local rescue agency that is keeping them. Unfortunately, the agency's response time via social media and email was over 72 hours and I just got word that someone has already inquired about one of the dogs, a seven-year-old Shih Tzu, I was interested in.

The second dog, a five-year-old Cockapoo, that I am interested in is not up for adoption yet because she has heartworm and they need to assess her. After waiting over 72 hours, they posted a fundraiser for her. I found out that the heartworm treatment will cost between $300 to $600, depending on the amount of time she's been infested and weight.

I have expressed an interest in meeting her and offered to help defray a large portion of the treatment cost if she likes us and the shelter is amenable to allowing us to adopt her. It seems that quite a few people understood my intent; however, the person I am chatting with apparently needed some clarification.

The discussion with the shelter is still ongoing and public on Facebook, but I am hoping that they will contact me to discuss this privately. This whole affair is taking its toll on me emotionally and physically; I may have to walk away and visit other shelters that have adoption centers with staff that I can communicate face-to-face with.

My Life's Miscellany

I gotta be honest with you, I am not too happy with the store on CafePress. I feel that some of the prices before markup are a bit on the high side, plus the product selection leaves much to be desired. I noticed that many folks in the store's social media network offer merchandise on multiple print-on-demand (POD) sites.

After looking at several options, I have decided to open another store on Storenvy and sell merchandise from Printful, a POD supplier. Since these are companies are separate entities, there is a lot more work involved in setting up a store; however, my hope is that the quality and variety of merchandise will be worth it. I will make sure to let you know when the store on Storenvy is open.

Penned Con

Kyle and I will be leaving for St. Louis to attend Penned Con, a convention where authors and readers can interact and network. One of the authors from Missouri that I have worked with in the past, Madge H. Gressley, was kind enough to give us tickets to the event. I am really excited about meeting authors and other book bloggers at the event, and I have already started making a list of what I need to pack!

Even with all of this going on, I am still reading and writing reviews this week:

To be Reviewed

Since I managed to read and post a review of The Show by John A. Heldt last week, instead of waiting until this week, I only have one book to review this week:

The Promise, C.E. Wilson, To be Reviewed, On My Kindle Book Reviews

If I can get a second book read and reviewed this week, I will. If not, I have an article that I wrote a while back that I can share with you on Thursday!

To be Read

One of the authors that I have worked with before, Tim Pearsall, asked me to read the second, book in the Anvil Creede series before final edits are made:

Anvil Creede, 'tween Thorn and Oak, Chris Lewis, Tim Pearsall, To Be Read, On My Kindle Book Reviews

I will give you more information regarding the release date just as soon as I get it!

Parallel Adventures, Into the Caves, P.S. Winn, To be Read, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Jenny and Jayden Carter are twins. Turning thirteen and out of school for the summer the twins are worried their vacation time will be boring. Heading down to the caves near their home, the twins find a lost puppy. Chasing him into the caves the twins find the surprise of their life and some adventures they will never forget.
Parallel Adventures, Secrets Revealed, P.S. Winn, To be Read, On My Kindle Book Reviews
As the series continues, twins Jenny and Jayden Carter follow their dog Portal into alternate realities through the caves by their home. This time the adventure is higher and the suspense is greater as they find the evil is closer to home than they had ever dreamed.
I grabbed the second book in this series for free on Amazon when P.S. Winn was running a promotion. When I saw that it was the second book in the series, I decided to buy the first one so that I could read and review it. I am sure that I could have requested it from her, but I wanted to surprise her with a review of the first book.

What is in your TBR pile this week? Have you read any of the books that I am reading this week? If so, what are your thoughts? Are you going to Penned Con? If so, maybe we can meet up! Let me know in the comments.

Have a marvelous Monday and a spectacular week!
