Back Cover

Yellow Hair documents the injustices done to the Sioux Nation from their first treaty with the United States in 1805 through Wounded Knee in 1890. Every death, murder, battle, and outrage written about actually took place. The historical figures that play a role in this fact-based tale of fiction were real people and the author uses their real names. Yellow Hair is an epic tale of adventure, family, love, and hate that spans most of the 19th century. This is American history.

Q&A

What was the inspiration for this book?
I read the phrase, "Largest mass execution in the history of the United States." I started researching it and one thing led to another.
Which character in this book do you relate to the most? Why?
I never relate to any of my characters. Here and there I will give one an attribute of mine or have him or her think a bit like me, but that does not mean I relate to them. There is so much more to them than the miniscule piece of myself that I imbue them with.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Louis L'Amour, John Steinbeck, Jack London, and David Baldacci to name just a few.
What are you currently reading?
Letters From the Dust Bowl by Caroline Henderson
What do you enjoy doing when you are not reading or writing?
Watching old movies from the 1930s and 40s.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about the book?
I spent one solid year on research. I also had to learn the Dakota and Lakota languages. I had to take a test to prove I knew a smattering of Lakota to join the consortium that would teach me the languages. They only wanted serious students. I failed the first time, so went back to my Lakota dictionary and studied. I passed the second test.
