Marvelous Monday, Lexi, TBR, On My Kindle Book Reviews

Join me in welcoming the newest member of the On My Kindle household, Lexi!

After waiting six days to receive a response regarding Coconut, the dog that Kyle and I were interested in from Rescue One, I was finally told that an "approved adopter" had inquired about her before I did. Despite my repeated attempts to find out if our application for other dogs was approved or denied, I still have yet to receive a response.

I gotta be honest with you, I was pretty discouraged. I decided to look at other dogs online, saw a picture of Lexi and fell in love. It took me a few days to muster up the courage to fill out an adoption application with Route 66 Rescue for Lexi and two other dogs. Honestly, I was not expecting a response; however, last Wednesday, Lexi's foster mother called me. She told me that Lexi was the only one available for adoption, I was so happy because Lexi was my first choice, and scheduled a home visit for the next night. As you can see, the meeting went well and we ended up adopting Lexi right then and there.

Lexi is an eight-year-old Maltese who spent most of her life in a puppy mill. Her foster mother had her for about a month before we came along and adopted this sweet girl. We plan on keeping her hair short in a "puppy cut" because it is easier to groom and because Kyle's response to seeing a Maltese with "show dog" hair was "Hell no!"

She's decided that we are her family. Her antics tickle us no end and I find that I have no choice but to take periodic breaks to give her some much-needed attention. This is good for me because it forces me to get some fresh air and spend some time away from the computer. We are both working on adapting to our new routines and we are slowly making progress.

Another bonus for both of us is that we have to work together to overcome our anxiety. Lexi freezes and becomes unresponsive when something makes her feel uncomfortable. This forces me to work through my anxiety to reassure her and help her build confidence, which has already helped me feel less anxious overall. It is a process, but we are working together to overcome it.

To be Reviewed

A lot has been going on the past couple of weeks and I am still adapting to life with Lexi, so I have not really had much time to read. It looks like I am only going to be able to review one book this week, rather than the two or three I was planning on.

The Hero of Blind Pig Island and Other Island Stories, Jimmy Olsen, To Review, On My Kindle Book Reviews

To be Read

I am going to do my best to read two books this week, especially since Untitled Beauty by C.E. Wilson is going to be released on October 13th!

The Fire, To be Read, On My Kindle Book Reviews
When Kevin Johnson, 22, goes to Wallace, Idaho, days after his college graduation, he expects to find rest and relaxation as his family prepares his deceased grandfather's house for sale. Then he discovers a hidden diary and a time portal that can take him to 1910, the year of Halley's comet and the largest wildfire in U.S. history. Within hours, Kevin finds himself in the era of horse-drawn wagons, straw hats, and ankle-length dresses. Traveling repeatedly to the same time and place, he decides to make the portal his gateway to summer fun. The adventure takes a more serious turn, however, when the luckless-in-love science major falls for pretty English teacher Sarah Thompson and integrates himself in a community headed for disaster. Filled with humor, romance, and heartbreak, THE FIRE, the sequel to THE JOURNEY, follows a conflicted soul through a life-changing journey as he makes his mark on a world he was never meant to see.
Untitled Beauty, C.E. Wilson, To be Read, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Eleven. A name. A title. A sentence passed. If you aren’t a Beauty, you’re less than a person. You’re a commodity known as a Potential… and you only have so many chances to qualify as a human being.

In her seventeen years, Eleven has seen the best and worst in humanity. She’s been passed around and abused by the bad. She’s hoped and dreamed for the good. And she’s despaired for the hand she’s been dealt. Now she’s been purchased by a wealthy man who has the ability to improve her life and help her become a Beauty – if she can put up with his erratic and controlling personality for long enough, that is. Complicating things is the appearance of a stunningly beautiful young man with amethyst eyes who treats Eleven to the rarest form of attention for a Potential: kindness.

Does Eleven trust her powerful owner to help her escape this life of servitude and enslavement, or does she gamble everything on the enigmatic young man who seems to offer her more than she could ever imagine possible?
Since I have been talking so much about my pooch, do you have one? What type of positive impact has having a pooch made on your life? Let me know in the comments.

Have a marvelous Monday and a wonderful week!
