Back Cover

In the heart of a raging blizzard Sheriff Jeff McQuede discovers a woman frozen to death in her car. At first he believes her death to be an unfortunate accident--until he finds clues that point to cold-blooded murder. Margaret’s husband, Arthur, left her in the stalled vehicle to brave the storm and manages to reach Joe Trevino’s isolated ranch. The case becomes more complicated because of the recent warehouse robberies at Trevino’s store. McQueede finds that Trevino is Margaret Burnell’s business partner, and that she has traveled from their Casper store to conduct a company audit. In addition, Margaret has planned to meet with her only child, a run-away daughter she hasn’t seen in years. Trevino, the missing daughter, and Arthur Burnell would all profit financially from Margaret’s demise. Has a relentless killer tracked and sabotaged the Burnells, or did Arthur simply abandon his wife for his share of the money, leaving her to die an icy death?

Q&A with Vickie Britton

What inspired you to write this book?
I lived for 15 years in Wyoming and the winters there were very harsh. There were many accounts of people dying of hypothermia. It was important to make sure to have food and blankets along on any winter trip. So I guess my co-author and I were inspired by the weather.
Which character in this book do you relate to the most? Why?
Sheriff Jeff McQuede is a small-town sheriff with big ideas about justice. He always tries to do the right thing, even if that is a hard decision.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Tony Hillerman, Craig Johnson, Margaret Coel
What are you currently reading?
Lost by Michael Robotham
What do you enjoy doing when you are not reading or writing?
My sister and I enjoy traveling both in the USA and abroad.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about the book?
Our book is FREE from January 24-January 28th. The seven books in the series are priced at $3.99 each or free on Kindle Unlimited.

Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton, authors. Reprinted with permission.
Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton, sisters and co-authors, are drawn to out-of-the-way places, old mining towns, and vast rangelands where the legends and history of the past live on. Inspired by the rugged mountains of Wyoming and Colorado, they find the lonely, high country region a perfect setting for their novels. They are authors of the High Country Mystery Series: Murder in Black and White, Whispers of the Stones, and Stealer of Horses, The Executioner’s Hood, and also of an anthology A Deal on a Handshake that also features Wyoming sheriff, Jeff McQuede. They are authors of over forty novels, including the eight-book Ardis Cole Mystery Series, and the Luck of the Draw Western Series: The Devil’s Game, The Fifth Ace, and The Wild Card, as well as the single Western title, Death comes in Pairs. Both writers live in Kansas; Loretta in Junction City, Vickie in Hutchinson.
