Believe it or not, I was sick for most of last week. Truth be told, I'd been dealing with intermittent nausea the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

I discounted it at first because the holiday season is always stressful to me on a personal level, and work was particularly stressful that week. A week later, the nausea actually worsened and I went to see my doctor. She assured me that it was likely a stomach virus and that it lasted so long because I ignored it. She gave me a prescription for an anti-nausea medicine, recommended probiotics, advised me to take it easy, and gave me a note saying I could return to work this past Saturday.

Even though I missed 12 hours of my 24-hour week, there is a bright side: I managed to get some reading done!

What I Read

I knocked out The Prophetess, the book I was going to start reading last week, and I read two other books that have been on my TBR list for a long time:

"The Brooch" by Geetanjali Mukherjee, finished reading, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Michael Lim has a secret, one that he cannot tell anyone, even his wife. But how long can he keep it, and how will his wife react when she finds out?

Grace Lim cares about expensive things and outdoing her neighbours. Her husband's secret can destroy her perfect world. Will she find out his secret, and will their marriage survive?

"Being Me" by Tricia Copeland on Goodreads, finished reading, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Nominated best New Adult and Contemporary Romance by Ozarks Indie Book Fest, Being Me is the final book in the Being Me series about falling in love, making hard choices, fighting for what's important, family, and friendship. Read Being Me as a stand alone or with the series!

From the back cover: "The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly." -The Great Gatsby

In attempt to manage her rage and shame after a violent assault, Amanda loses touch with reality. Her spiraling physical state forces her to act or die. To face her demons, she must revisit the emotions she ran from in the first place. But she is determined to pick up the pieces of her life. Can she mend broken bonds with her friends and family? Will her epic love survive? Find out in this roller coaster finale of the Being Me series.

Currently Reading

I'm not reading anything right now because I joined a book blitz for a new release by Tish Thawer in a couple of weeks. I agreed to read and review the book by a specific date and, if the PR agency is correct, I should have my hands on the ARC this week. I didn't want to start the next book on my list and then stop midway through the book so I could keep my commitment to the PR agency.

Up Next

Tish Thawer, author of "Handler" on Goodreads, TBR, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Our world was perfect––until we broke the law: Don't go out at night. Utopian by day, dystopian by night; this is the world I recently discovered. I now struggle with the fact that our whole society has been based on a lie. There's only one way to change it––conquer the darkness we've all been raised to fear.

Live the lie; fight to the death; become a Handler. It's the only way.

"Dead Man Code by R. Weir on Goodreads, TBR, On My Kindle Book Reviews
Cases come and cases go, but private detective Jarvis Mann can't land an easy one these days.

The cops are unhappy Jarvis digs into a murder case they closed, uncovering a crooked tech company, hell-bent on stealing their customers' IDs and US government secrets. Soon Russian mobsters and Chinese government goons arrive to bribe, threaten, beat, and finally kill, in an attempt to stop him and safeguard their criminal enterprise. Can he protect the life of the widow who hired him to find her husband's killer? Will the founder's beautiful and sexy ex-wife provide the key he needs to crack the case, as Jarvis slugs and shoots his way to a pulse-pounding conclusion…
I am currently working my way through my TBR list of books that I've promised to read and review and I'm seeing the light at the end of that tunnel. After I've knocked those out, I plan on hitting the books that I bought at Penned Con last year and the ones I got at the Ozarks Indie Book Fest this year. Don't worry though, I'll still review books from the authors you've grown to love from past reviews; I just plan on introducing you to some new ones to fall in love with.

Have a marvelous Monday and a great week!
