After struggling for years to have a child, Claire Rasmussen, 34, turns to adoption, only to find new obstacles on the path to motherhood. Then she gets an unlikely phone call and soon learns that a distant uncle possesses the secrets of time travel.

Within weeks, Claire, husband Ron, and brother David find themselves on a train to Tennessee and 1945, where adoptable infants are plentiful and red tape is short. For a time, they find what they seek. Then a beautiful stranger enters their lives, the Navy calls, and a simple, straightforward mission becomes a race for survival.

Filled with suspense, romance, and heartbreak, HANNAH’S MOON, the epic conclusion of the American Journey series, follows the lives of four spirited adults as they confront danger, choices, and change in the tense final months of World War II.

After numerous miscarriages and a recent stillbirth, Claire Rasmussen decides that adoption may be the only option to make her dream of having a family with her husband, Ron. When the couple visits an adoption agency, they find out how difficult it is to adopt a child in this day and age.

Discouraged and dismayed, the couple struggles to figure out how they will finance the adoption process and settle in for a long and arduous journey. However, a phone call from the Bells presents her with an alternative; the chance to travel back to 1945, a time when adoption requires less time and money.

Claire, Ron, and her brother jump at the opportunity to travel back in time. After completing their mission by adopting a little girl, Hannah, the family prepares to enjoy the rest of their stay in 1945. However, several different branches of the government have other plans for the family; turning what should have been a pleasant vacation for the family into a suspenseful, heartbreaking, and adventurous journey.

Hannah's Moon is exactly what I've come to expect from Heldt: suspense, romance, history, and adventure greet the Rasmussens at every turn!

The premise and setting are detailed, well-executed, and thoroughly researched. The characters are endearing, realistic, and appropriate for their eras. The plot is adventurous and deliciously suspenseful with a hint of romance. I found myself drawn into the story and felt like I was being transported back in time to 1945. Despite its length, I read it in a couple of days. I couldn't put it down because I wondered what new adventure or challenge the Rasmussens would be presented with next.

I read the blurb after I read the book, and was surprised to see that the American Journey series was coming to an end. The ending felt more like a cliffhanger to me, leaving me to wonder if another series about the Rasmussens is in the works.

I think Heldt saved the best for last with this book and I hope that there will be a series about the Bells' extended family picking up where Geoffrey Bell left off!
