Review

With his brother's murder solved and having ruined his relationship with his girlfriend, Jarvis returns home to focus on a case that was put on the back burner while he investigated his brother's murder. His client thinks that her husband was murdered by his employer and that the employer covered it up to make it look like a robbery gone bad.

Jarvis is in more danger than ever before. His client is keeping a very dangerous secret from him and he's making some very powerful enemies; however, he has managed to form alliances with some unlikely people. Will these alliances be enough to keep him alive, or will this case be his last?

With each installment of the series, the action becomes more intense as the cases Jarvis accepts puts him in more peril than before!

In the previous book, Blood Brothers, I noticed that the hard-boiled detective veneer that Jarvis clung to was beginning to erode. In this book, it continues to dissolve as Jarvis expresses regret for decisions that have hurt other people and demonstrates his passion for helping others, even if it means putting his life at risk. I like the fact that his character is evolving from the chauvinistic player and becoming a more thoughtful, ethical man.

The plot is thrilling and the action is amazing! I was on the edge of my seat from one page to the next. At first, it seemed that Jarvis was out of his depth in the tech world; however, his wit and intelligence ensured that he brought himself up to speed pretty quickly. There are several unexpected twists in the plot as Jarvis makes new enemies, finds new allies, and discovers his client's big secret.

Between the action, the plot twists, the dialogue, and the direction that Jarvis' character is taking on a personal and professional level, Dead Man Code is my favorite in the series thus far! I really can't wait to read the next book to see what Weir has in store for this daring and dashing detective!

I live in the Mile High city with my wife, daughter and dog, where the Rocky Mountain High isn’t always achieved with an herbal substance. When not glued to the computer for work and writing, I relax by enjoying the outdoors; playing tennis, travelling in our motorhome and riding a motorcycle wherever the wind takes me. My writing beckons back to the days of detectives and dames, but with modern plots and twists. PI Jarvis Mann is tough, resourceful and a man with as many faults as virtues. HIs oddball sense of humor is much like mine, though I’m not nearly as tough and fearless as he is. Though no evil stands a chance against my written word!
