Marvelous Monday with Lexi

#MarvelousMonday, #LexiTheMaltese1, On My Kindle Book Reviews

In case you missed the news on social media... Between my tax return and the contributions that Tricia Copeland and Lily Luchesi made to Lexi's fundraiser, I was able to get Lexi's teeth extracted!

We knew going in that a few of Lexi's teeth needed to be extracted and we also knew that she had some teeth extracted before I adopted her; however, we were surprised when we were told that 13 teeth were extracted. Fortunately, only one of the tooth extractions was complicated which really eased the recovery process for my baby girl.

The vet who extracted Lexi's teeth decided not to x-ray the knee that has been bothering her, and instead performed an examination of the knee while she was under. We were told that he tried to put the kneecap back in its proper position and it kept slipping out, and he diagnosed her with a luxating patella. Surgery or pain management was recommended; however, after reading about the potential severity of the issue, the surgery would involve deepening the grooves in Lexi's thigh bone so that the kneecap will remain in place. Given that she has had this issue for quite some time, she could have osteoarthritis that compromises the bone. Without an x-ray to know the extent of damage to the bone, we are forced to consider the possibility that the damage is too severe and the effectiveness of the surgery would be limited.

I am quite unhappy with the fact that Lexi's knee was not x-rayed, especially since the vet acted like a judgemental asshat during the first appointment because I didn't have the $100 for the x-ray right then. We are in the process of looking for a different vet to take over Lexi's care and to consult with about her knee.

In Other News

I didn't spend all of my tax return on Lexi's procedure, or Lexi herself (even though the bulk of it went towards Lexi's procedure and stuff for her), I managed to pick up a few items that I've needed for quite some time now. I also managed to find a seller on Amazon who makes some pretty awesome cases for my Kindle Fire HD 7 (4th generation)!

Middle East Art Pattern Fun Design Fashion Trend TPU Leather Flip Case For Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7'' 2014 4th Generation

It really looks and feels like the hardback book cover and I fell in love with the design. Just so you know, the links take you directly to the seller and the brand I bought, and they are not affiliate links. I'm not trying to sell you anything, I'm just stoked about my new case for my trusty Kindle.

The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable—until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world—and of each other.

Make sure to check out the sidebar as I am in the process of updating my bookshelves on Goodreads. It's going to be a bit of a project, but I plan on adding more to my TBR list for the blog since the shelf only shows less than half of the books I've received and downloaded to share on the blog.

My break turned out to be very productive for me as I evaluated the direction I wanted to go with the blog and my personal life. It's good to be back and sharing fantastic books with you!

Have a marvelous Monday and a fantastic week!
