Marvelous Monday with Lexi!

Marvelous Monday with Lexi: 12/03/18 Edition!

Greetings, humans! I can't believe it's been two weeks since my last post. I would have posted on the blog last week, but Mommy promised an author that she'd post a review on Monday of last week.

The holiday season is a busy time of year on the blog. It seems a lot of authors want to get their books published in time for the holiday shopping season. Mommy has been busy reading and posting book reviews for the authors she frequently works with.

Mommy was thrilled with her new job at a local pet store; however, she wasn't able to stay. The allergens in the air caused her asthma to flare up and it was a health hazard, so she made the decision to leave. On the bright side, after her first day of work at the pet store, Mommy received an email from Indeed featuring a job opportunity for a bus aide position with a local Head Start. She decided to apply because she wasn't sure if her job at the pet store was sustainable, and was called in for an interview last Friday. She really hopes she gets the job because she'd only be working a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon during the week. This job would give her weekends off and it'd make it so much easier for her to schedule her weekly appointments around it.

In even more Mommy-related news, Mommy called DSS to complete her interview for the Food Stamp program. While she was on the phone, the person she talked to told her that the Medicaid Review Team had just approved her Medicaid application. This means that she can move forward in the process with a local behavioral health organization to see if she qualifies for housing plus, it will allow her to address a few other health issues.

Even with as busy as she has been, Mommy found the time to groom me. You really can't tell from the picture of me at the beginning of this post, but I think you can see the difference in the picture at the end of this post. Mommy bought a new pin/bristle combo brush and a slicker brush, and she used the slicker brush on me before she trimmed me and the trimmers just glided through my hair! We had a little mishap with my tail during which she trimmed off more than she intended to, but it's still long enough to be poofy. I also decided to squirm while Mommy was trimming my beard, so it is very uneven; however, it will eventually grow back. In her defense, she did a great job on my body and around my eyes. She's starting to get the hang of it, and she has also figured out how to trim my nails and trim up the bottoms of my paws.

Now that you've been caught up on everything that's happened over the past two weeks, it's time to share with you what Mommy is currently reading and what she'll be reading soon!

A soul is a heavy burden to bear.

There's a gala celebrating the city and many notable celebrities are attending, including a rock star, a socialite, a baseball player, and an entertainment reporter. Each one is notable in their own right, and each one holding a secret.

When they all get stuck in an elevator together after the gala is over, they think that is the worst thing that could happen to them... until the doors finally open. The world as they know it has gone, now they have poppies attached to their chest and are facing down soulless friends, family, and strangers. But they will make new allies along the way as well, including a crotchety old woman and a former drag queen.

It's a battle for the ultimate prize: their souls and the souls of everyone else on Earth. Can they save the world or will these disparate individuals kill each other first?

Changes to the Blog

Oh! Before I forget, Mommy made a few changes to the blog:

Commenting System

Since Google announced that they were going to eliminate G+ for personal accounts in 2019, Mommy decided to use Disqus. Since Disqus' spam filters are more robust and customizable than Blogger's commenting system, this provides visitors who wish to comment with more options. Commenters can choose to register with Disqus, post as a guest, or even post anonymous comments. While the comments won't be heavily moderated, you can rest assured that Mommy will be on the lookout for trolls and spammers.

User Interface Changes

You may have noticed the neat buttons that are in the sidebar and even in reviews now. Mommy figured out how to turn plain old text links into buttons that change colors when you hover over them. When you visit a review, you'll also see that the post's labels are located next to the post's image. These function like the labels at the bottom of the post; when you click one, you'll see all of the reviews Mommy has written for those labels.

Posting Schedule

Mommy's posting schedule hasn't really changed; however, this week she'll share a review on Tuesday and Thursday. She has been doing a lot of reading and wants to make sure that reviews are shared in a timely manner. Things should go back to normal next week, but I'll let you know if she changes her mind (again).

Mommy stopped sending out the weekly newsletter a few weeks ago. This was mainly due to time constraints and a lack of subscribers. If she has the time to engage with followers via newsletter, she will start it back up; however, Mommy wants to focus on engaging with visitors in the comments and social media, and she really wants to focus on reading and reviewing books that have been sitting in her TBR list furever (dog pun intended).

Feel free to try out the new commenting system. Mommy feels bad because all of the G+ comments couldn't be migrated to this new system.

I hope you have a marvelous Monday and a fantastic week!

Wags and Licks,

P.S. The holiday season can be really brutal for introverts, people with anxiety issues, and people with depression. Please don't get all butt-hurt when a friend or family member (including pet) doesn't share the same enthusiasm as you do for Christmas shopping or gatherings. If they decline, respect their space but make sure to let them know that they are welcome to join in when, or if, they are able to.
