Greetings, humans! It's been a couple of weeks since Mommy and I moved to our new apartment. I'm settling in quite well; however, Mommy is having some issues.

Last week, we had a pretty decent storm with driving rain coming in from the north. Our apartment is a corner apartment so both her north and west are exterior walls. We discovered that the north exterior wall needs some patching when some of the rain leaked inside and soaked through Mommy's pillows as well as the portion of the mattress and box spring that we up against that north wall. Mommy was understandably dismayed, especially since it's become apparent that maintenance is no hurry to resolve the issue because the mattress and box springs protected the floor. Mommy has rearranged her apartment to prevent her property from sustaining water damage. She hopes that when it happens again, maintenance will make it a priority since it will be the Housing Authority's property that will be at risk.

While that event was extremely annoying, it isn't the root of Mommy's difficulties. The problem is that Mommy is struggling to get used to not having another human living with her, and the apartment doesn't feel like home to her yet. Mommy's not exactly lonely because she sees other humans around the apartment complex when she takes me outside, but I think she sees them as strangers and she is homesick. I personally think that this is normal; she hasn't lived by herself in like 15 years, so it's going to take her some time to figure out what she wants to do with herself. It also takes her time to warm up to people so it will be a while before they feel less like strangers and more like neighbors.

Even though Mommy's been having a tough time with the move, she knows it's something positive. We also have a bit of good news to share. Mommy's lawyer called her last Thursday and told her that the judge made a decision about her disability case, and it was favorable. It's going to be a few weeks before Mommy finds out how much her backpay will be and how much she will receive a month; however, her disability claim has been approved. Once Mommy learns a bit more, she will have some decisions to make about working, volunteering, or figuring out what she wants to do with her time. I do know one thing, having that income will relieve some of the stress she's put on herself about making sure I'm cared for.

Currently Reading

I'll be straight with you, Mommy has been feeling a bit scattered lately and is having issues focusing. However, she has started reading quite a bit more and she's hoping that she'll go only one or two weeks without reviewing a book. She wants me to remind everyone that she hasn't forgotten her promises to you, and she will review your books as her physical and mental health allow. This will improve as she gets used to living on her own and becomes more comfortable in our new apartment.

Mommy and I want to wish you a marvelous Monday and a beautiful week!
