But there is a Darkness growing, and Daphne is at the centre of the conflict. Salem must pick a side and do what is right to save the girl he loves.

Review

When Salem is exposed to a deathly poison that won't respond to any of the potions he is given, Harley has to investigate Salem's past to find a cure.

Salem's dark past is alluded to in the past installments of this series, and now readers have the opportunity to learn more about the Coven King's past from his point of view. This is an opportunity that fans of the series won't want to miss out on because Lily Luchesi drops several bombshells in this book!

There are so many elements in this book that I enjoyed, and I'm not sure where to start. I thought it was cool that Salem and Harley have so much in common, beyond what was mentioned in the previous books. I liked how the dialogue is a little more formal than what one would expect from young adult "muggles" because it suits the setting. As someone who has read many of Luchesi's books, she has a signature style that allows her to keep a series from becoming monotonous after a few books; the unexpected twists, revelations, and bombshells she adds to her plots ensure that every installment is fresh and compelling. I also think it's rather easy to forget that Harley is considered a young adult because she is incredibly intelligent; however, Luchesi injects moments in the plot where it becomes apparent that Harley's emotional aptitude corresponds with most young adults' emotional aptitude. I think this adds depth to Harley's character and makes her an interesting heroine.

If you are a fan of paranormal YA and haven't tried "The Coven Series" yet, it's a bit darker and mature than the Harry Potter books. If you've been following the series, I think you'll be surprised by what's revealed in The Coven History!
